Community guidelines

Built to Roam is a community-driven digital marketplace for the campervan, and adventure vehicle sector. Our platform exists to help people discover, share, review, and connect in a way that is informative, respectful, and fair.

These Community Guidelines ("House Rules") set out the standards of behaviour expected from all users, including customers, converters, and community members, when using Built to Roam features.

By using the Built to Roam platform, you agree to follow these guidelines in addition to our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.

1. Be Respectful and Constructive

  • 1.1 Treat others with respect. Personal attacks, harassment, intimidation, or abusive language are not tolerated.
  • 1.2 Discrimination or hate speech based on race, nationality, gender, sexuality, disability, religion, or any protected characteristic is strictly prohibited.
  • 1.3 Disagreements are welcome, but must remain polite, factual, and constructive.

2. Honest, Fair, and Accurate Contributions

  • 2.1 Reviews, comments, and posts must reflect genuine, first-hand experiences where possible.
  • 2.2 Do not post false, misleading, exaggerated, or deliberately harmful claims about individuals or businesses.
  • 2.3 Reviews should focus on relevant experiences such as service quality, communication, workmanship, and value - not personal grievances unrelated to the service provided.
  • 2.4 Incentivised, fake, or coordinated reviews (positive or negative) are not permitted.

3. Reviews and Ratings

  • 3.1 Reviews must be written in good faith and based on real interactions or transactions.
  • 3.2 Reviews must not include:
    • Offensive, obscene, or threatening language
    • Personal data (addresses, phone numbers, email addresses)
    • Legal accusations presented as fact
    • Content copied from other platforms
  • 3.3 Businesses may respond to reviews, but responses must remain professional and non-confrontational.
  • 3.4 Built to Roam may review, moderate, remove, or temporarily hide reviews that breach these guidelines or are subject to dispute.

4. Messaging, Chats, and Forums

  • 4.1 Use messaging and forums responsibly and for their intended purpose.
  • 4.2 Do not spam, solicit, or repeatedly promote products or services outside permitted marketplace features.
  • 4.3 Do not share private conversations publicly without consent.
  • 4.4 Impersonation of other users, businesses, or Built to Roam staff is prohibited.

5. Safety, Legality, and Harmful Content

  • 5.1 Content must not promote or encourage:
    • Illegal activity
    • Dangerous or unsafe behaviour
    • Violence or threats of violence
    • Self-harm or harm to others
  • 5.2 Advice shared within the community is informal and should not be represented as professional, legal, or safety-certified guidance.

6. Privacy and Data Protection

  • 6.1 Respect the privacy of others at all times.
  • 6.2 Do not share personal or sensitive information about yourself or others that you do not have the right to share.
  • 6.3 Any misuse of personal data may result in immediate action, including account suspension.

7. Platform Integrity and Fair Use

  • 7.1 Do not attempt to manipulate ratings, search results, visibility, or platform features.
  • 7.2 Do not interfere with the normal operation of the platform or attempt to bypass safeguards.
  • 7.3 Accounts must not be used to harass, monitor, or target other users.

8. Reporting and Moderation

  • 8.1 Users are encouraged to report content or behaviour that breaches these guidelines.
  • 8.2 Built to Roam may moderate content proactively or in response to reports.
  • 8.3 Actions may include content removal, warnings, temporary restrictions, or account suspension or removal.
  • 8.4 Built to Roam does not guarantee the accuracy of user-generated content and does not endorse opinions expressed by users.

9. Appeals and Disputes

  • 9.1 Users may request a review of moderation decisions by contacting Built to Roam.
  • 9.2 Decisions are made in line with these guidelines, our Terms of Use, and applicable UK law.

10. Updates to These Guidelines

Built to Roam may update these Community Guidelines from time to time to reflect changes in the platform, legal requirements, or community needs. Continued use of the platform constitutes acceptance of the updated guidelines.
